Akti(F) Plus - Active for families and their children

The Akti(F) Plus programme supports families with children who are at risk of social exclusion or poverty. It aims to improve the lives of such families, increase their participation in society and create long-term prospects for them to enter the labour market.

To achieve this, the programme funds tailor-made advisory and support services for families and cooperation between job centres, employment agencies, local authorities and other local stakeholders. The intention is to make sure that families receive support suited to their needs and that existing support services work together more effectively.

Target groups

The programme is aimed at:

  • families with children who receive or are eligible for benefits under Book II or Book XII of the German Social Code
  • families who receive or are eligible for the child supplement
  • families with children at risk of social exclusion or poverty
  • specific target groups such as single parents and persons with disabilities

Activities

Funding is provided for activities that:

  • improve families’ social and economic participation
  • help parents achieve greater stability in their lives
  • create long-term prospects to take up or return to employment
  • help establish and enhance cooperative structures that span statutory frameworks and facilitate families accessing existing support services

How the programme supports families

Examples of activities funded by the programme include:

  • advisory and coaching services
  • family coaches, support navigators, mentors
  • help with dealing with administrative formalities and accessing social benefits
  • support with accessing education, advisory and support services
  • support with challenges such as lack of childcare, restricted mobility, debt and addiction
  • services to help working parents stay in employment or increase their working hours
  • support to help parents with disabilities participate in working life

To achieve its objectives, Akti(F) Plus also promotes cooperation between job centres, employment agencies, local authorities and other local institutions. Building on the experience of the Akti(F) pilot programme (2020–2022), successful approaches are being improved and continued in the 2021–2027 funding period. The projects cooperate in regional networks and partnerships.

Families interested in support available through the programme must contact the respective Akti(F) Plus project directly.

Current projects and locations

The Akti(F) Plus programme is currently being delivered through 84 projects across Germany. The project list shows where the funded Akti(F) Plus projects are active. An interactive map also shows the regional distribution of the projects.

The Akti(F) Plus networking centre

The programme also funds a networking centre based in Berlin. This networking centre supports the Akti(F) Plus projects with their implementation and provides expertise regarding cooperation across different statutory frameworks. It also facilitates the exchange of experience between projects and helps improve coordination between local support services.
